Ranger mods
I know there is a Ranger page but their is a lot more traffic on here including OPT and it could apply to Polaris generally.
I'm hoping to do an event in June with my 2004 500 Ranger. Imagine orienteering mixed with mud running, mild rock crawling and trail riding.
The Ranger needs a bit of modification to bring it line with the regs and also help it's performance.
Two areas are tyre choice and clutch, which kind of go in hand.
The clutch has issues at the moment, in low range things seem to be fine. In high range, if I rev it too high the drive slips. I.E. if I'm riding along and put my foot to the floor (especially on an incline) the engine revs increase but the speed doesn't change.
Ideally, it needs a clutch kit and at the same time I can install something to better suit it's use and an extra inch or two in tyre height.
Another job on the list is to install single seats and a winch (or two), not to mention an upgraded battery (Odyssey).
So what's the general thoughts on the clutch? (It's got a new belt)
All the best

Others can give you good advice on tires, clutch mods, etc my hands were full just keeping machines running! But I can say by your description sounds like you've either have a glazed(burnt) belt even if new?? or possibly some worn rear ramp buttons or both if it's slipping on inclines and the motor revs, but speed doesn't. http://www.cyclepartswarehouse.com/f...2004&fveh=6652
Plus if the belt has more than 1 1/2 inch slack in the middle you can remove one or two of the 3 internal shims to tighten it up. Item 7,8,or 9.
