Default cdi box

Hi guys, having problems. My 03' 700 sportsman smoked the cdi box. I lost spark took it to a dealer , they diagnosed the cdi box was the issue. My bikes been there a month because they said it' on backorder and going to be two more weeks. They said the box alone was 250 , so i looked on ebay and saw new one for 100. My question is what other years besides 03 are compatible? Part number ? Appreciate the help!

This is the model with the Ducati ignitions system that fails. Was it updated to the Kokusan kit and then the cdi failed??

Hope the dealer is replacing with Kokusan Kit #2202602. He'd be lucky to find new Ducati parts, plus don't let him install any!! This is a pdf link on the kit instructions. The kit is around $450. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...44770516,d.b2I

I heard about the ignition upgrade. I'm kinda on a budget . Is it not a good idea just replacing the Ducati cdi box?

NO!!! Just Google all the problems with this system on the Sportsman 700 if you don't trust me or this forum. This was a common problem and I was replacing kits before I retired 2 years ago. Sounds like the dealer is trying short cuts or just patching up the machine or just doesn't know (which this would be hard to believe) If one part fails, then the other Ducati parts will also. I fell into this trap right at first also. I replaced either stators or the combo cdi/coil packs only to have the other fail shortly after. After awhile the kit info came out and the Ducati parts were suddenly hard to find.Stators are not available if it caused the cdi to fail!! ONLY the coil packs are show to be available,BUT don't have one installed if they are still available. Just money thrown away when it or the stator fails again. Look at this parts replacement for the ignition. Item #2. Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

Default Got the kit

I got the kit today for $430, from the dealer. I couldn't find it cheaper online , i looked everywhere. So i started to remove the front rack to get to the voltage regulator . Tomorrow , i will get into it. Thanks again O.P.T , i can't wait to hear it run again. The dealer said they didn't hear anything about the upgrade kit. But yet they had one in stock , lol.

If you ever want to find out what going on,slip in and talk to the mechanics if you can, bypassing the guys at the front counter! Most dealers won't let you,but some will. We had two side doors in the shop area and I was trapped! Good luck on the install.

Default no problems

I finished the ignition install today. What took the longest was routing the plug wires and taking off the bumper and rack. After installing the flywheel, stator, coil, cdi box and voltage regulator, she fired right up. I thought it was funny that the firewall was designed to bolt the new coil on! Tomorrow i will take it out for a run and i expect it will be awesome! Thanks again for your help Old Polaris Tech, once again you called it !!!
