So when I see the partially drilled hole I lock it in place and then adjust both intake and exhaust? Then done right?

Compression is good on the motor. I think Im looking at worn valve guides. Does it hurt the motor to be burning oil like that? I have some good rides coming up and dont want to tear into it yet.

I know, I ask a lot of questions. lol Thanks
Yes! The 450,525,etc all adjust the same way. This is the same way we adjusted valves on the KTM dirt bikes.Even the 990 had similar crank shaft locking. Eliminates any guess work when adjusting valves. As far as smoking yes it could be worn valve guide seals or even rings. Plus the smoke may not all be oil related. If valves are not adjusted correctly, carb jetting ,etc, can cause excess fuel and can smoke.

LOL, yes I like pictures!! lol

I got my fingers crossed on valve adjustments helping the smoking problem. It smells of gas pretty bad but the color of oil and when revved can get some black residue.

Im going to skip out from the restaurant and go do it real quick (we own a hawaiian restaurant named Island Style. My wife is from the big island)

Thanks a ton Old Polaris Tech!! I got them adjusted. I admit I wasnt sure if I was seeing the groove using a mirror to see in the crankshaft locking hole. Mine didnt have a tapered locking bolt in it though. Just a normal bolt, but I just made sure not to move anything. I found that both intake valve were WAY too tight. One exhaust a hair loose and the other real loose. I adjusted them and WOW!!! The motor feels like a total different motor. I have no idea if it had ever been adjusted before. Now that I know how Im sure its only 30 minutes top to adjust. Motor idles great, its alot more quiet, and it gained mostly down low power compared to what it was. I couldnt be happier. It did have some light smoke still. Im hoping it might just be some residue burning off. I only rode it for a minute.

HUGE THANKS!
