Thanks for all your help. Stator seems to be working fine. I checked every connection again so I guess it's time to bite the bullet and by a new pdm. Can I just hook the new one up or does it need to be calibrated By a dealer? Thanks again

No it doesn't have to be programmed.

well it took awhile but i finally got a new pdm. installed it tonight and nothing changed I'm ready to burn this thing. what did i miss?? i researched this to death and was almost positive the pdm was the problem. if the battery was junk it would still show 14 volts running right?

Not always, plus if you haven't had the battery load tested during this process you could have a dead cell. You said the stator checked out,you have a new pdm,so that either leaves a bad battery or a wiring/connection problem as the most likely suspect.

Recheck the stator resistance and vac range I gave you earlier. This is from the manual. If stator resistance and vac is in range and you're sure it's not a connection /wiring problem, then it's entirely possible to have a "new" faulty pdm module. This you might talk to with the dealer or where ever you got the pdm from,if it helps any at all,as many will not accept electrical part returns for cars, cycles, atvs, etc. I've had the same issue on batteries bad straight out the box along with faulty"new" ecm modules on the 2004-2006 carb models on ecm recalls. At times like this is when it does pay to have a dealer work on machines as you wouldn't have to be going through what you are now..
