Default 07 ranger 500 with codes

Im working on a ranger 500 fI that sometimes dies on idle other that it runs fairly well, might be a little sluggish it has the following codes
42 engine temp sensor short to ground
22 tps circuit short to ground
51 injector circuit
not sure if this Is a electrical issue or I know the fuel pump /pressure sometimes leads to some codes being set. where to start

It's usually either a tps harness or the map sensor harness wiring short,NOT the sensors themselves that cause erratic idling. Most of the problems we had with the atvs and Rangers were with the thin harness shorts along with the cheap connectors from the map(tbap) sensor. You can visually inspect the wiring from these sensors going down into the main harness for any bare spots, plus as it's running move the harness wiring around to see if you notice any change in idle. These soft wires can also be broken internally, wires can pull out a little from the connector itself. Sometimes the rubber grommet under the map sensor can be the problem if cracked or damaged in any way. You can pull the sensor up to check this. If the harness is bad, heavy duty after market ones are available with thick wiring and stronger connectors, plus look at the "sticky" posts on efi problems in the expert section at the top of this page.Only The Best

thanks opt.. just wanted to update if it helps anyone I ran it up to the Polaris shop the coded in it are probably old codes that were never cleared, but it has a bad fuel pump in it that's causing it to die or idle funny and has bad accelereation, so the codes really had nothing to do with whats wrong just needed to be cleared the battery trick would not clear them.

kinda hard to be a mind reader when codes are listed.. Glad you found the problem, but you didn't have to buy the complete tank assembly did you? Aftermarket fuel pumps are available along with Polaris offering some pumps for certain models without having to buy a tank assembly.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse
