500 jetting with uni
Hey there fellas, just got a uni filter on my bike and wondering what jets others have used to compensate for the extra flow. I read to keep going up in main jets till the engine stumbles at WOT. Here's where I'm at after five mile of mid-wot with a 177.5 main.
And is there a difference in the stock pilot vs this pilot with holes that the dealer have me?
Thanks for the help
1999 Sportsman 509. wiseco 93mm forged piston. Moose gaskets. CRU aftermarket HO camshaft. new diaphragm and block. Summit water temp gauge. EPI clutch rebuild. custom spacers on both clutch springs. runnin Mobil 1 0W-40

First off you're way too rich. Look at the base of the plug, too black with carbon buildup. Stock jet up to 3000 ft is 152.5. Depending on temp, altitude, better breathing and exhaust flow jetting changes may be required.Rule of thumb is 5-15% max for more open filters along with more open flowing exhausts which at 177 you've reached that. Go down to a more reasonable 160-165 and plug chop it. Plus the two pilot jets are different. If the opening is larger on the jet with holes,it's for a more free flow vm style carb and not for a cv style.

alright after chopping the plug and what i could find on reading it, its a solid dark rust color. gona go down to a 172.5 and get the right pilot jet ordered.
opt, is there also a difference in how the types of main jets will run? like the large button face verses the smaller diameter headed ones? just currious as the jet holes are cut the same.
as usual, thanks a bunch.

Face size doesn't matter as long as it secures the washer holding the needle jet in place. The orifice size should be the same between the two jets,BUT I always replaced the same size slotted jet that was in a carb. This came from a guy on a Suzuki forum that interchanged small to large on his Mikuni and ran it.
"Re: Large Head or Small Head Jets?
The carb on my 2002 came with the small round head jets. I made the mistake of buying mine before tearing apart the carb - installed it anyways and the bike runs great (same sized hole/jet) if you have the option to buy the right ones though, I'd get the small round head jets."
