Default Help my 98 500 Scrambler wont idle

Hi everyone I am a newbie on here but I used to ride a lot but due to my time consuming job my 4 wheeler has sat for along time. It will not will not idle but runs as long as I give it a little gas. I have sprayed a lot of carb cleaner through the breather and it does not work. Any ideas?

Doesn't take long for fuel to break down and clog jets.Probably pilot jet stopped up.You can maybe get by with just cleaning the jets, but if mine I'd go ahead and pull the carb, install a new carb kit, keep a good fuel stabilizer in it along with a battery tender to get more life from it.http://www.ebay.com/itm/CARB-REBUILD-REPAIR-KIT-POLARIS-SCRAMBLER-500-98-99-00-01-02-2WD-4WD-2X2-4X4-/230835298722?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35bedb21a2&vxp=mtr

Thanks for the help. I am not sure how to do that but I will try. I had a terrible mechanics teacher is high school. He didn't teach us anything about carbs. He said they were being phased out and now 20 years later I still am dealing with carbs. lol

Here's a fuel section from the manual that will help.https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...,d.aWw&cad=rja

You MIGHT get lucky by running a heavy mixture of Seafoam through it with new gas. I've seen it work, but not every time.

If you're looking for something specific for cleaning the fuel system the best product out there is Chevron Techron. We have been manufacturing and testing additives for a long time and that is the best product made specifically for fuel system cleaning on the shelf right now.

I agree with you on this!! Just had to use Techron last week on my old truck. Check engine light came on(again) running rough. So I filled it up,added the large 20 gallon treatment bottle to the tank, drove around for a bit and the light went off and runs and idles great now. I've had to do this for several years now about every 4,000 miles or so.Might be time to either mop the tank out or drop it. Techron is the only thing that's ever worked on my old beast with over 270,000 miles.
