Default Need Help With 2001 Polaris Trailblazer

My recoil on my 2001 polaris trailblazer stays locked out, in turn, stalling the engine. I was told to loosen the dogs on it but I have no clue how to. Any help would be appreciated.

This is the old style recoil assy and hard to work on,but pull the recoil cover and see if the ratchet return spring has broken allowing the ratchet to remain engaged in the starting pulley.Items #18,19.Dirt Cheap Yamaha & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse Plus may only just need a little cleaning to get it operating right if you're lucky.

Thanks for the reply. The spring and ratchet are intact and nothing is broken. For some reason it only "locks up" when the engine starts and stops. Any other suggestions?

See if the ratchet kicks in and out quickly when you pull the recoil handle while off the atv. Could be binding if the pivot pin is worn or the spring may be weak. Plus a simple cleaning may solve the problem.Just sounds like it's not retracting quick enough to unlatch from the pulley.
