polaris 350l front hubs
my son was riding this thing the other day and the left front hub come off the axle. at first thought it may be the drive axle breaking, but after taking off the plug from the hub, the nut backed off the axle. easy fix i thought. the incident bent the brake caliper bracket. as i was was trying to get this back together i was thinking that atf was the lubricant for the hub system. these had grease. my question would be that the grease is not supposed to be there and would this be the reason the 4x4 system is not working. would i need to change it back to atf? whoever has this machine before changed both hubs and i cannot get 4x4 to engage. after i pieced it back together the light does not come on on the handlebars. i really have not found a reason to have 4x4 but i would like to have working correctly.

the hubs do not use atf fluid, they require the Polaris brand made for the hubs. the awd system relies on the fluid and armature plates inside to activate the hubs. the bearings should be greased. I believe there should have been a cotter pin in the castle nut to prevent the nut from backing off like it did.

The old 350s had a stake lock axle nut that was supposed to be tightened to a rolling torque. Just torque the hub nuts to 20-25 foot pounds should be sufficient. If the awd doesn't light up,if the bulb itself is burnt out it completes the awd circuit on these models.
