Cool 2013 sportsman 500 smokes

hello,my 2013 sportsman 500,with only 1200 miles is blowing blue smoke,it has 0w-40 mobil in it since I bought it last year, could it be smoking because we are not using the 2w-50 oil that Polaris reccamends, will it stop if I change the oil and use the Polaris oil? thanks

Mobil 1 shouldn't have done this, wouldn't think changing oil would help unless oil change intervals have been to long.. May be other than oil smoke, could be excess fuel or coolant smoke. You might try checking for any seepage around the head gasket, plus have the radiator pressurized also.If that checks out, could be float level allowing too much fuel, wouldn't think a needle and seat would wear in this short period of times, but possible could..

Seen that happen before. If you tear it down hopefully the piston isn't scored and can get by with just rings if piston is still in tolerance. Plus I'd have the valves lapped and new valve guide seals installed while you have the head off also.Bad when something like this happens to a 2 year old machine.

Can't imagine spending the $$ on a machine only to not change the fluids or maintain it the way it should be.

It makes me think that, even as cheap as I am, I will probably never buy a used one again unless I am absolutely sure of it's history.

Had several like this come into the shop. From atvs to Rangers. One of the worst was a fairly new Ranger 500 that was one of several that a large rancher bought for his ranch hands. NO one was responsible for maintenance evidently as the one he brought in showed zero oil on the dip stick, air filter was black and wouldn't crank. Little over 200 hard hrs on it. Needless to say,had to rebuild the engine from the bottom up.
