Found the problem! While "under the hood", I looked at the manifold. i grabbed the pipe, and the damned thing wiggled. I grabbed a ratchet and a wrench as the other nut wasnt accessible, and tightened it down. Sounds like a 4-stroke now. Is the regulator something that could harm anything, or can it wait. I have the Money, it's just a necessity vs. want thing....

If it's charging over 15 volts I'd replace it as cheap as they are.

Sorry! Ithought the reply had posted....

Exhaust manifold was LOOSE, the nuts had backed off. Tightened 'em up, Voila! Sounds like a 4-stroke. I hear a high pitched whining sound when i accelerate fast, but i also hear it on my cousin's '04 Polaris Ranger. Coincidence? or common sound/problem? Thanks in advance.

Whine could simply from the transmission gears. Some models were more noticeable on this. Plus might be time to change out the AGL if you haven't done so already.

Still several places to get this Gen4 winch mount for the 2 wheel drive Express. Shares the same basic style as the Explorer. Some are on ebay.1996 1997 Polaris Xpress 400 Warn Winch Mount 34901 | eBay Plus you might contact these people.Polaris Generation 4 Winch Mount - Winch Mounts - POLARIS - SPORTSMAN - Sportsman 500 - 1996-2003 Sportsman 500 - Polaris Generation 4 Standard Winch Mount (Stock) - KFI ATV Winch, Mounts and Accessories Most people will recommend a Warn 2500 lb winch, but if it's beyond what you want to spend, plenty on ebay again.Reliability might be a factor if you go with a cheap one. 2500 atv winch | eBay

Automatic Gear case Lubricant. Or any suitable equivalent synthetic gear case oil.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pure-Polaris-AGL-Synthetic-Gearcase-Lube-Transmission-Fluid-1-Quart/231331703434?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D32238%26meid%3D210bc07bf69449fbb609031d2647b085%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D201335948738&rt=nc AMSOIL Synthetic ATV/UTV Transmission & Differential Fluid OR any other oil that's ok for chain driven gear cases. Don't use 75/90,80/90,etc as it's too thick to splash around to lube the bearings and gears.
