You're thinking about a turf mode style rear end that some Polaris models had that did have this feature.. Yours doesn't.. You have straight drive for BOTH drive shafts!These were solenoid controlled and allowed one wheel to turn and one wheel to free wheel to keep from tearing up grass and dirt when set to turf mode.

Ah right! This would explain why I was so confused about the diff. What does the diff in my model actually do?

You have one big gear case that takes care of it all,no separate diff,all gears including the rear drive are driven by 3 different internal chains..look at the parts break down again on this gear case.....
