1999 polaris sportsman electrical issue
#1
My 1999 sportsman started having electrical issues. I lost electrical power to everything, headlight, tail light all the gauges and indicator lights on the headlight pod, won't engage into 4 wheel drive, and no power to the starter. I put in a new battery, checked all the fuses, replaced the ignition switch, and nothing worked. I have power from the battery, through the fuses, to the switch. I can start the machine with the recoil and when it is running it runs great but still nothing to do with the electrical works. Help

Most problems like this are left control switch related. You really can't take one apart(at least I couldn't) without having springs and brass parts flying all over, but you can spray electrical contact spray and check the wiring leading under the front cover along with connectors at the switch.Found several where the connector pins had backed up a tad not allowing transfer of power. Plus check whether you have power to the small wire at the solenoid. If you have power on this wire when the starter button is pushed, could be a defective solenoid. Plus not abad idea to slice the circuit breaker pouch open and check condition of the breaker. If corroded power transfer could be intermittent.

ya i have 99 as well, same problem, got lucky. looking on right side of steering pod from drivers seat, there is a main harness running along the steering column. mine had the safety unclipped and was ever so slightly pulled apart. reconnected and A ok!!! good luck!!
