Yamaha Grizzly660R

This bike WILL be released this summer... mid to late summer. It has Disk brakes front and back, IRS, 2WD/4WD/4Locked, It uses the same motor as the Raptor with a few mods for low end torque.
I know someone that has ridden one and says it is awesome... beyond awesome, and he is buying one when it is released.
So, if Polaris does not release a SP700, I will be riding Yamaha before the summer is over.

Yamaha has their act together this year in all motor sports. If the 660 Rumor is true I will be selling my HO.
Polaris is suffering from quality control issues right now in the drive train department. Thus the delay in the 700 sportsman. As of right now I am having multiple drive line issues with my current HO. Two of my other riding friends are also having clutch issues in their HO's right now also. I fear that the increse in cc'c will spell doom for Polaris already crappy reputation for durability.I know I speak with a forked tounge but damnit a 6,250 dollar quad should not have these problems. I am getting tired of defending Polaris. If the Yamaha rides as good as my HO see ya later North Star...
1,800 miles and 3 drive clutches, 4 seals and one belt this is unacceptable. I wonder what else is going to go this summer after another 2,000 miles?

i think that u can guarentee that polaris will release the sp700 at least by the time that griz660 is out.
polaris doesnt want to be in second place for the utility machines.
Odin, how do u know there having problems with the drivetrain on the new sp700?? i thought thoes bugs would have been worked out along time ago. i think they have been working on the sp700 for along time.
i hope it comes out soon

sounds like it should bea great machine! personally this has been my most reliable ATV. i have never owned a new atv that went a whole year without needing shop time. I have put double the miles on my Sportsman than I ever have on any of my other machines. I buy brand new always. Run them hard they will need stuff the more complicted they are the more there is to go wrong. Simplicity sometimes has it s merits if someone is looking for a machine that will need nothing ever. I know people with Grizzlies that have spent time in the shop being repaired from abuse. Though some of those guys actually ride to purposfully break them.

The strange things is that some people have these clutch problems and they always reoccur, while others never have any problems at all. If the Grizzly has the same clutch as the old Grizzly, do not expect it to be any more reliable than the clutch on your SP500HO. The warranty companies have just begun to cover clutches recently. before that, they were always considered a wear and tear item. They made this decision based upon the number of clutch failures, and obviously the ratio of failures was so low, they decided it was profitable for them to do so. I hate it you are having problems, but you are one of the unfortunate few.
I would like to compare both bikes before I buy. I hope they are both released at the same time. I know they have taken weight off the Sportsman... I wonder if they added weight to the Grizzly??? I am guessing they will both weight in close to 650lbs... we will see.

The clutch problems seem to be early release models. I have one of the first HO's to be sold at my dealer. The drive clutch was bad from day one out of the crate. The other problem with the HO's is the driveline CLUNK! when belt engages. Some do this and some do not. If you have a CLUNKER your drive clutch is going bad. You can check this buy removing the cover and looking at the drive clutch sheaves if there is a deep groove forming tell your dealer to put on a new drive clutch before your warranty runs out.
The other current HO clutch problem is belt tension being too tight causing the quad to walk at idle. This also causes poor shifting when trying to go into reverse or low range, this also causes linkage binding.
I am at my Polaris dealer a lot so sometimes I get to see the factory rep. The last time I talked to him he told me the new 700 has tons of torque and was snapping belts like crazy. This testing was done in extreme mud riding. He even went on to say that they are detuning the engine so it will me more driveline friendly. No other specks where given.
I am glad I bought the extended warranty for the HO.

Odin,
im not calling u a lyier, but how can polaris build a XCR800 sled with 160hp that doesnt snap belts but a 49hp engine that does???
i think that your rep was telling u a line to buy some time.
im sure the engine does have lots of torque. If u look at the picture of the engine it looks very narrow. this means it has a long deep stroke, which means tons of torque.
im not sure about this grizz660. its is a single so i dont think it would have the same power or torque as a twin.
