Default Need to seriously reduce rear suspension sag

Ok,

2004.5 Sportsman 500 HO, I ordered and installed EPI 140Lb springs for the rear and have the preset set the the highest and the darn thing still sags too much in the rear, I'm 265lbs and with my 50lb granddaughter on the back the steering is dicey (wants to go straight when wheels turned). Whats the nest step? lift kit for the rear,? The shocks seemed ok when I installed the springs, would better shocks help? PVC spring spacers for the rear springs? Any advice?

Thanks

Brian

We've installed these lift kits, but it seriously puts an angle on the cv shafts into the struts. Like noted in the description we've had to grind down areas that may touch. Polaris Lift Kit

I know of a couple of Scrambler 500s that had severe rear sagging, they researched and found a Monroe air shock for the rear...and it worked. However, I'm not sure if anyone makes air shocks for your Sporty...could google it.

Are you sure they installed HD springs and not normal springs? I can't set rear shocks pre load on stiffest setting once I added HD springs, it almost will not budge and the ride is to harsh .
I only use stiff settings on our fishing/camping trips when we load up heavy and the HD springs handle it well. We bought the Polaris brand.

They (being I) installed what I ordered.. Not saying I could have been shipped the wrong springs. It wasn't too hard to set to the highest setting, but I did have it jacked up and no weight on the rear. It actually seems like it made no change what so ever .. Bet I got the wrong springs, but theres no way to tell that short of ordering another set from somewhere else.

You said yours were OEM polaris, do you have the part number and source you could share?

Thanks

Brian

Heavier duty front and rear springs will have thicker coils and coil spacing wider apart. Compare the stock ones with the ones you ordered. Here's an example on Polaris website.Heavy-Duty Front Suspension Springs | Polaris ATV Store

They were taller, I do remember that, so I assume the spacing was wider, the thickness I would have to get some calipers out later and do some measurements. I will report back.

I had the Polaris dealership but them on because the stock springs were to soft even on the stiffest setting. Now I,m on the 2nd click notch and its as stiff as the stiffest setting once were.
I have no idea of the part number though.

Sounds like they sent you the wrong springs. I googled EPI HD rear springs, all seem happy with them.

I added Polaris HD front springs, had to crank my rears up. Does Polaris make rear hd springs?

I have the HD EPI springs installed front and back and it made a huge difference. It really handled and steered so much better. I too am about the same weight as you and it did make a difference. I would double check to make sure you got the correct springs. EPI has always been great to work with for me.
