scrmbler 500 no spark
#1
sorry for a new thread cant find my other one
.. 2000 scrambler 500 no spark
so i rebuild the engine got it running ran fine then the timing chain broke while idleing got that fixed along with bottom timing sprocket cuz it broke 2 teeth got all that fixed then it started pouring gas out of carb overflow so cleaned carb got that fixed then got it running again while idleing it died now it has no spark this atv has been a nightmare and now i have another problem anyideas >?
Im not getting any reading from the pulse coil and 16.1ohms on the excite coil (stator).
checked all wires no broken wire checked throttle saftey cleaned pulse coil and magneto
is it possible the stator just randomly broke or what ?

Pick up coil should show around 97 ohms resistance. You could try a new one for 14 bucks.Stator Pickup Coil Fits Polaris Scrambler 500 1997 2000 New | eBay Or before you do you can look at this pdf on the wiring diagrams that has the correct specs on the stator, etc. Has the early and late build Scrambler 500,which ever one your model is.https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...dFlXfQ&cad=rja

Just look at the stator resistance specs in the right hand corner of the wiring schematic for your model.. It tells you what the exciter coil should show. Yes stators can short out at any time.

yea i know already what the specs should be
says i should have 97 ohms on pulse coil i have 0
says i should have 446 ohms on stator i have 16 .. so my question is dose that mean forsure its the stator .. i just dont wanna have to replace the whole electrical system on the atv .. you know ?
i had a old yamaha atv that lost spark and i replaaced the entire electrical system and still had no spark i nthe end i had to sell it cuz there was nothing left to replace lol

By your readings, the stator main exciter coil and pick up coil are toast.. Plenty of cheap aftermarket complete stators now that you can get. 2000 Scrambler 500 stator | eBay
ok i got one orderd i hope it fixes the problem.... do you have any idea why the pick up coil and stator would go bad at the same time ? is it common or did somthing short it out just seems odd to me every thing was fine then it just dies ouut while idle

With electrical problems anything can happen at any time with no explanation.Trash in the recoil cover can short out pickup coils, older style exposed flywheel magnets flying out can destroy everything as some have found out. Heat is another killer of stators and pickup coils along with wiring shorts.

ya wel there was lots of metal shaving inside the recoil cover not sure if that could have been it not evan sure where the shavings came from ... stator is 16 yrs old the atv is old i guess parts are just gunna start expiring

Shavings from the softer teeth of the bendix slamming against the flywheel ring gear over the years can be one source along with metal shavings from the recoil parts.Plus add some dirt and water entry over the years which makes for a good combination than can tear up stators and pick up coils.
