2004.5 Sportsman 500 HO

Was heading out to check corn feeders, right before I left the road, slowed down, EBS kicked in, started sounding strange, then came to a stop and died...

Got her back home, had spark at the plug, fuel tank 1/2 full, but won't start.

Pulled line from fuel pump to carb, cranked over and no pulse or stream of fuel.

So is it a good assumption that the fuel pump failed? I have one on order, but just wondering if there is anything else to check? looking it looks like to me that the pulse line comes from the intake in front of the carb, could anything else besides the pump and leaky pulse line cause the no fuel issue?

Check main vacuum line from pump to carb for damage,plus you can pull this line off at the carb,suck on the tube or use a mityvac. If no fuel out the line to the carb more than likely the pump has trash in it or a diaphragm is damaged. Plus check the fuel valve itself. They can stop up and not allow fuel to go to the pump to begin with. Fuel flow is from the tank to the fuel valve,from the fuel valve to the pump and then to the carb.

Thanks for the tips OPT, I'll post back once I get the pump and perform the other two checks ... My paranoia was making me think something more catastrophic could have happened.

Just checked fuel valve, flows fine .. pump arrives tomorrow
