Question 2000 xplorer 400

Per the manual: ( After travelling in wet areas the recoil housing and starter should always be drained completely by removing the recoil.) Is it necessary to actually remove the recoil or just the drain plugs? Thanks guys!

Using the drain plug just gets rid of the standing water but moisture is still inside. If you pull the recoil housing use some electrical contact cleaner to remove moisture from the flywheel area, case and inside the cover, let it dry and use some good rtv sealant around the cover and also silicone the pull rope handle to the cover. Next time you go through water it should stay dry.
