Default Synthetic winch rope repair.

Looking for ideas on how to join a synthetic winch rope. It smapped a few inches from the thimble. Going to put one of those rubber winch stops on it too.

A small u clamp?

If it only snapped a few inches from the thimble, re-splice that thimble in there. It is not difficult to do at all.

great video, thanks for sharing. Remember that from way back in my mariner days when I learned to make nautical knots. Video was a great refresher course.

Your not going to be able to splice it together, but you can take the left over rope and make a new loop for your thimble on the end.

Thank you. I will take the old one apart for practice.

He makes that look easy but if there's a way to screw it up I probably would.

Same here. I will probably pull the rope through a rubber stop and ubolt the two ropes together.

It's pretty easy to splice synthetic rope... just give it a try.

I've had a few breaks over the year, so this year I took a 6' section of thicker line than what I have on the winch and fed the thinner winch line into it. Both are synthetic winch ropes. I used a wire coat hanger and made a hook and fed it through the wider winch line and slowly pulled the thinner line into it until I had a full 6' of doubled line. Been plowing 3 times so far and it looks good. Took me a couple hours to feed it and once it was fed, I sewed the first couple feet together with 14 lb. fishing line to keep it from bunching up in the rollers. It stays in by friction like those old Chinese finger traps.
