Default Installing a starter question

06 800 sportsman, after removing starter, connecting directly to it with battery and it didn't turn so it must be seized.
First, should I be able to turn the gear with pliers?? I can't. And what grease do I use on the O- rings when I install the new one?

checked voltage at solenoid which is new and getting 12.8 out of solenoid to starter.

thanks.

If you can't turn the shaft with your fingers ,junk the starter. Usually brushes are worn down and dirt and crap is in the armature.People have spent good money rebuilding them only to have them fail later on. Any grease is fine on the o-ring. Doesn't have to be a specialty o-ring grease.
