Anybody out there have any experience with installing Thunder Products UFO's. I'm getting ready to do it on my 400 Scrambler. Everything is stock engine wise.

I'm also getting the Boyesen Pro Reeds. From reading the UFO instructions I would think installing these reeds and getting them to run right would be the first step. Then start with the UFO.

Anybody with experience on these items I would be interested what you've learned.
Scott.

Do a pipe, airbox, jetting and clutch springs change first. The UFO's will always be flying around for you to add on when you are ready.

Any concerns with breaking the stock piston. According to HPD and RCR that is a concern anytime you start modifying the 400's.

Isn't the rod usually first to go?

From what I've heard the stock piston is pretty fragile. I've heard nothing about the rod being a problem.

The stock piston will hold up fine with a piped motor. We still have a '95 with the stock piston. I would recommend replacing the cast unit with a forged piston after the first couple years, or if you are going to do some serious engine modifications like porting, billet head, raising pressure, etc. I ran my stock piston two years with a ported, milled head motor. When we went to replace you could see the skirt was cracked, which is where the cast pistons usually come apart. But, for just a piped motor, no problem.

sburdman i have used the ufos in a 38 mikuni roundslide on my 400 ifeel it helped in the low to mid but you have to put areally small pilot in and this for some reason caused some lean areas that i didnt think was worth the gamble so i took the out.
