Default Polaris Magnum 500 (2000) not starting

Hi all

I am having problems with starting my quad, it’s a magnum 500 year 2000 model.

I bought a brand new battery, bike started and ran fine for a couple of days and then the battery was left completely dead and the bike stopped starting.
I took the battery back and had it tested, it was working fine. So I fully charged the battery again and put in on the bike, the bike wouldn’t even start with the newly charged battery. I could hear the solenoid tick once, but that’s all that happens.

I used a jump start on the bike, the bike would start.

I did the following tests:

Checked the battery voltage when the bike was running, I got 13.5v

I checked the voltage at the solenoid closest to the battery side, I get the same reading as the battery, around 12.5v

I checked the solenoid on the stator side, when the ignition is on, I get 0 volts

I checked the cable coming out of the stator, then the ignition is on, I get 0 volts.

Can someone help me figure out what the problem is?
Is it my solenoid or stator that’s causing this?

Hoping someone can help me out here

If the bike is able to start, even by jumping the solenoid, the stator is ok.13.5 volts is on the low end as far as charging back to the battery, but if you can pull start it ok, check out the face of pick up coil and flywheel for any water or dirt contamination.Plus could be like what happened to this member and several others on the 425/500s.no spark to plug when using electric starter - Page 3 - ATVConnection.com ATV Enthusiast Community Even a starter that the brushes are worn or dirty can cause problems along with corrosion on the starter cable if you haven't checked this out already.Even a simple solenoid can be the problem if when the solenoid clicks, power isn't jumping to the starter cable.

Thanks for the reply!

The bike starts up easily when being jump started by a battery. I haven’t tried using the pull start! How do I do that? Do I just turn the ignition on and pull start? (Sorry this is my first bike).

I will check all the connections from the battery down to the stator connection, and look for any dirt build up. Hopefully this will fix the problem.

Thanks for the response! Its my first quad so I need all the help I can get.

How do I pull start? Turn the ignition on and use the pull start cable? Anything else I need to do?

I will check for all the visible signs you mentioned.

Also, another thing happened, I tried using my friends battery from his quad, its a bigger battery and it started my quad.
I took my new battery back and had it tested, I gave around 250 CCA which I believe should be enough to get the bike started.
