Question 1991 Polaris trail boss 250 throttle cable issue

I'm in the process of resurrecting 91 trail boss, I rebuilt carb but can't seem to get the throttle cable to stay in the slide... I put the cable in the hole to the top side of the slide, place the jet needle retainer on top then seat the spring... when I re install and screw the cap back down the cable pulls out every time I squeeze the throttle. What am I missing??
Thanks in advance for any help you can render!

Do you have the retaining plate in? The round little plate that has a little section cut out that locks the cable in Place?

Only thing I can think of.

I do, I've uploaded a image.
Is the spring the only thing that's suppose to hold the retaining plate in place?

Retainer plate should hold the needle and lock the cable in place. Should look like this. Check the sprinng out also. Could be like this one.

I hate to start another thread to ask this, I have a 1999 Polaris xplorer 400, the temp light comes on from start even whn bike is cold and never goes off. Is this a indicator my tenp sensor is bad????

More than likely the plug in to the sensor came loose or the sensor wire is broken. Just feel for the wire at the sensor. Item#1.

thanks, will do...... I'm back to my resurrection project of my 19991 trail boss 250 can't find a wiring schematic on the forum, any suggestions?....I was installing a solinoid switch and there was a terminal end attached to the old one but I don't see a loose wire hanging.. I'm thinking my starting problem may be electrical since the carb has been rebuilt and cleaned...steal narrowing Down the issue!

Solenoid is a simple hook up. Battery power wire to lower solenoid post. Upper post goes to the battery. The small red or red/white solenoid wire goes into the harness connector leading to the start button on left control switch. Left control switches are another problem area if you can't get it to electric start. You can spray the crevices of the switch and see if that helps. You can also loosen the starter wire, move it around and retighten to get a good connection. Simple things like this can cause problems also.

Ok, "left switch" u mean left handle bar starter switch/button? Are there any fuses that wd prevent the starter switch/button from working? Prior to installing new solinoid switch and batt. I was turning the motor by jumping old solinoid switch with my jump box. Bike is dead with new installs, new solinoid switch just clicks when new batt is hooked up even then not pressing starter button! I have to be missing something!
