I have a 2010 polaris 550 XP and have been told by the dealer I need a crank position sensor. I am being told however that I have to order a stator why can't I just get the sensor?

I know you can just buy the sensor by itself.

I don't think the stator has anything to do with the crank position sensor. I know diddly squat about the 550 but what's the connection between the two parts?

Can't remember exactly on this model, but can't find one listed for the 550. It may be included with the stator, but that was about the time I started dragging my tools out of the door and retired.. Under sensors, switches, ecm, etc, the crank position sensor for the 2010 850 is listed but there isn't one listed on the 2010 550 parts break down that I can find.2411589 SENSOR-CRANK POSITION Appears that the cps is part of the 550 stator.

Was a surprise for me too since I've never had to replace one on a 550. Every other one I've seen you could purchase a cps separately, they weren't wired in directly with the stator.

Interesting. I can find it listed for a 2011 model, but not a 2010.
