Default Ignition Switch / Harness Issue

Houston, we have a problem... One of my buddies was riding my 2002 polaris sportsman 700 yesterday. Ignition switch got stuck and the gauge cluster went dark. Switch is bad, but when I pulled it apart, one of the wires in the harness is fried. Is this something I pay a shop to fix, do I rewire the thing or try to splice a new wire in? We were able to drive it home, but the switch does not turn. The switch is an easy replacement, but I don't know what to do about the fried wire.

I'd trace the burnt wire and if possible splice it then replace the switch.Evidently the switch was the problem to begin with. That's probably what a shop would do anyway,or try to talk you into a complete wiring harness as some have been known to do.
