Default Clutch plates

This is a general question about wet clutches.
My 400L doesnt have a clutch, sort of and it is running great. I received such excellent help here when getting it going i want to ask about another machine i am working on.

It has a wet clutch and is dragging too much, it never seems to really free up when the clutch lever is pulled in. Cable adjustment did not help.

I have read where others remove a metal disk from the stack. Is this true, will the clutch work?

Each metal disk is 0.05 inch and the entire stack is 1.2 inch thick.

Thanks for reading.

What machine do you have?? You can try to roughen up the fiber plates with sand paper and clean steel plates, but if the fiber plates are old/oil saturated, just get a new set of fiber plates on ebay or amazon. Usually they are fairly cheap no matter what make or model you have.

Thanks . It is a 2004 yamaha raptor
I was wondering if the fiber plates could be cleaned. It looked like the oil had never been changed, just like tar.

Years ago i replaced the fibers in a old honda cb750 to fix a similar problem. So i agree new is best.

There aren't any reviews for that clutch kit but the seller has 99.8% positive feedback so he's keeping people happy. I expected it to cost more.
