How to set idle on 2001 Polaris Sportsman 500 HO
#1
I just finished rebuilding carb, set the mixture screw 2 turns out, and it fires up easily but idles very high with no choke. If I choke it, I can get the idle down to a good level. I've tried adjusting the mixture screw in and out some but still can't get it to run right without choke.
What is the correct procedure to set the idle?
Thanks.

Recheck your work if you have to on the carb especially the diaphragm and needle.Make sure the slide moves up and down with your finger to make sure it operates smoothy. Then adjust the throttle cable slack.Cable adjuster is down from the throttle housing under a rubber sleeve. Loosen the lock nut and turn the adjuster in until you have no more than 1/8" slack at the thumb lever. You should then be able to lower the idle with the carb idle adjuster. After it warms up using the 2 turns out as a base setting, turn the fuel screw out slowly until it starts to stumble(counting the turns) and then back in until it starts to do the same thing.Set the fuel screw between these two points.OR you can do as some have done. Turn the mixture screw out until it reaches the highest idle and begins to stumble, then turn the screw back in 1/2 turn. Best if you have small hands and a small screw driver or a carb adjuster tool.
