Does anyone know where to find guards for the handgrips, I know Polaris has them, but I am looking for alternatives.

Try www.rockymountainatv.com They seem to have about the best selection of after market stuff like that. Good luck.

I use the Maier XC's that dennis kirk sells, They say they are for cycle use only but thats bull, They fit great and have excellent protection, Mine are the carbon fiber knock-offs and I think they ran 35 or 40 bucks but deffinetly well worth it

I don't know what kind I got cause they were on the bike when I got em. They are pretty nice though. Then got an aluminum piece around the guard holding it on. Nothing willl break them.I don't kow why I replied cause it wasn't much help. But oh well!

Default I use Hand Cuffs Handlebar Covers

I use Hand Cuffs Handlebar Covers, they are universal, and only 25 bucks, I also got free shipping.
I am happy with them.

Just search for:
hand cuffs handlebar covers

You will find them

PowerMadd

Just keep in mind that the mounting kit is sold seperately...Also the hand wrap seems like a must..

I put a set of black Polaris ones on my wife's 2006 Sportsman 450. One thing I do remember is that the left side mounting is different than the right side.
The mounting kit with the Polaris ones has the two longer bolts to use if the winch switch is there. Remember some of the aftermarket ones will not have this.
I sure you can make it work though!!!
