My warranty on my 2001 SP500 HO expires tomorrow. What should I do ? Buy the extension ?

I don't really like to buy extended warranties, because it's insurance and the insurance company deals in stats. They don't think it will break, and who am I to argue ?

The only problems I've had so far is a noisey radiator fan, and the usual sticking shift linkage.

Did you buy the warranty ? Did you use it ? Did you pass and wish you had bought it ?

I believe in the machine, and don't think it will break, but peace of mind is worth something I guess. What do you think ?

Thanks,

Dave

save your money and put it away to collect some interest until you actually need it to make some repairs. I have my doubts that you would need it unless you ride "REAL AGGRESSIVE" and have a bad habit of breaking stuff. I know of a guy who got the extended warranty and made good on his investment already. Only because he beats the snot out of his machine. A good relationship with your dealer helps also. Minor things they may cover even though the warranty is long gone.

Well I buy the warranty because of the following. I ride a lot (few thousand miles a year) and have been buying a new ATV every couple of years. I bought the three (3) year warranty with my 01 HO because I know I will be selling it for a new one in less then 3 years. The dealers I have bought my ATV’s from have given me from 15 to 20 % off on the listed warranty (they all will if you ask). Like automobiles, ATV’s break if driven hard. That is only one reason to have the coverage. The reason I got it was I was able to get full price selling my used ATV because I had a warranty to offer with it. This makes a used ATV very appealing to both dealers as well as private individuals when selling. This I know from experience!

I was under the impression (from my dealer) the extended waranties could only be purchased for up to 30 days after purchase date.

I'd say go with the warranty if you had alot of problems already. Or if your real hard on your machine. If not save the cash for something else. When I purchased my H.O. they told me I had up to a day before to get the warranty also. I got to fiqure out by then if I'm going to get it too.

Hi Dave:

I did not get it on the Scrambler and that almost bit me in the butt. I will be getting the extended on the Raptor. Remember I have seen you ride and you ride pretty aggressive. I think I would go ahead and get it. I must admit that I usally do not get these things on my major purchases. But at least on these 4-wheelers I think it just might be a good investment. I think that it might have to do with the fact that I do not jump with my refridgerator or washer.

Lets go riding soon.

Hey Kevin, good to hear from ya.

So your' getting a Raptor , huh ? You do seem like a Raptor kinda guy,....except for the age thing.

We'll have to get together sometime. I've got a buddy down in Columbus with a Raptor. You two can see who can get hurt first.

Hi Dave:

Picked up the Raptor 2 days ago. I am still geting used to it. It is a lot differant than the Scrambler. Not used to a clutch. I did find out that when you need to do a panic stop the lever on the left handle bar does not stop you like it does on the Scrambler . I keep killing it as well. Frankly I feel stupid but I hope to get used to it soon. I am taking a lot of friendly ribbing from friends and fellow ridding buddy's. I have gone from being what I felt was pretty good on the Scrambler to being not so good on the Raptor. But I will be ready to ride soon with out embarassing myself (I hope).

I would definitely get the 5 year warranty. Even if you do not use it, you will get your money back when/if you sell the bike in the next few years. I have had a speedo, water pump seal, fan motor, and head gasket replaced under warranty. It has paid for itself, and I have 50 months to go.
