Re-jetting for elevation
#1
Guys I was wondering somethig. I Live in Texas at 0 elevation, but now I'm going to college in Laramie Wyoming, we set at about 7500ft. The mountains are about 9000ft. The question at hand is, if I bring my four wheeler up here on Thansgiving break will I have to re-jet it. I put a pipe, K&N mounted straight to the carb (no airbox) Cool head, clutch spring. Any replies would be greatly appreciated. Another thing does any of you live up here close, will it be too cold to ride after Thanksgiving.

A general rule of thumb is to change your mainjet one size for every 2500ft change in elevation and 25 degree change in weather. The higher you get the thinner the air so go to a smaller mainjet. The colder it gets the denser air gets so go larger on the mainjet. You really need to learn to read spark plugs and listen to the way your engine runs to get it right. Try these webpages for info.

The information that was posted above here is absolutely incorrect. That's the trouble with all this net crap, anyone can post garbage as if it is gospel . . . do not believe it. Unless you know the source of your information, do not take info posted here and use it. Apparently some folks are reading information from a manual and don't know what it really means.
There are two things to consider, (1) altitude (2) temperature.
ALTITUDE: One jet size "smaller" leaner for every increase of 2,000 ft. in altitude. so for an increase of 7,500 ft. that would mean approximately a 3-4 main jet size change "decrease" (leaner) in jetting.
TEMPERATURE: One jet size "larger" richer for each 25 degree "decrease" in temp.
You may find that going from say 70 degrees to 40 degreees at 7,500 ft. that the jeting change should be about 2-3 sizes "smaller". One thing for certain. If you don't change jets you will not hurt your motor at all, but you will be running rich on your main jet.

Hey corncob I bought a snowmobile yesterday. Its a polaris Indy 400. So it will be snowing that much by thanksgiving. I thought that I would probably get to ride the 4-wheeler until Christmas, but if there is going to be snow that early I may just start riding snowmobile and leave the fourwheeler in Texas. Is there alot of place
