6 it is.
Back to the original topic.
A key factor is tranny performance.
The Cat 500 auto is a step forward
over the SP 500. It is seemless and
QUIET. The Polaris is an older design
in need of an upgrade and an engine breaking
improvement.
Let us assume the race for king of the hill
is now: SP 500, Auto-Cat, Rubicon.
Who has the design savey and guts to break
through with the killer solution?
The Rubicon will be hampered by drum breaks and full time 4wd. The Cat is in it's first
configuration and sure to be tweaked better
and better over time. The SP 500 is due for
the upgrades! Come on Polaris.
Blow our socks off.

Chicken Man Rules!! The inaugural post. I beleive I have spawned a monster. You will give me credit for your name won't you Cob?
I think that the fit and finish of the AC gives it a few low marks personally. I think that the 4wd selector lever is a flimsy thing and could have been engineered much better. Its like they got done and said "oh, forgot to make one of those!" and then they just rigged up something quick. I also think that they used flimsly plastic for the shift lever. It needed to be made of a more solid material. Other than that, I think it is a contender. The Honda will be tough. If its top speed is up to par with the rest, I will have to crown it in my book. Polaris needs to put out a manual shift version of the sportsman 500 and then I might go against the grain in a few years and get one. Something tells me that I won't have to worry about that though.

DAG NAB IT!!!!!! Buddy of mine came in today from the upstate to spend the week with us and go hunting. Has got a BRAND NEW CAT 500 Auto in the back of his truck. I am foaming at the mouth to ride it and HE WANT LET ME!!!! Says he wants to burn the first tank of gas out first. ...... I think he's yankin my crank ,he knows I want to try it out and he knows its killing me that he want let me ride it. I guess I'll just try a little psycological B.S. on him act like I don't want to ride it ,maybe he'll ask me to then. Sorry just had to tell that figured it would help get us to 6 anyway it did involve a Cat so it wasn't totally irrelevant.

Hey Evenson, Polaris probably will surprise you when they throw 600+ engines in their big bore machines for next year. Kagey, tell the guy "either let me ride it or no hunting for you," or "My Magnum just can't go where your AC can go, so can I please ride yours?" Maybe that will work.

How big do you think they will eventually go with quad engines? I think that if they get much bigger, it will be overkill. Too much power for the weight, and if they continue to make them bigger, it defeats the purpose. My AC is HUGE compared to my Honda, and I used to think it was a big bike after owning a 1985 Yamaha 200. I don't think they should get any bigger than 600-650 for utility quads. The prices are getting too high already, and this is a recreation off-hiway machine, rather than something that has some everyday purpose. (meaning like a street bike or economy car) Sport bikes can keep getting bigger for all I care, but I think they should just draw the line for utility quads. How many people would spend $9,000 for a Sportsman 700? A lot would, but I don't think I could do it. I might get a pair of 2wd ranchers instead. I think they should quit making them bigger and start trying to compete with each other on price rather than size.
Oh yeah, and some stupid manufacturer needs to put the transmission and drive selection options of the King Quad on a bigger bike.
