AC500 AUTO vs. SP500

LOL
*I* got the winning ticket!
That TDR site has a lot of interesting stuff. Now I gotta learn a whole new language. I am disappointed to hear that my mileage is "normal" for the 24 valve diesel. I was also thinking about adding an exhaust brake ... but after seeing the warnings from Dodge about an exhaust brake an *automatic* truck, now I gotta think twice.
Well, I'm outta town for the rest of the week. I'll check back Sunday night. Now don't go and start page 9 without me!
Hey Jeremy or Chickenman .. why don't one of you start a new topic - "Tow vehicles" I think we could exchang a lot of ideas for both, gas and diesel trucks. Might even let some "Ford" owners say something.

Chickenman, I think it would be ashame if you won the lottery, you have enough money now! Ok, so you diesel owners are saying you get on average less than 20 miles per gallon with your diesels? So how are they more fuel efficient than a gas truck? I know of a lot of gas trucks that are in the mid 20's for mpg, so what's the deal? Also, when I stated in the "Problem found on the Magnum 500" topic, the horsepower isn't there on diesels judging by how much torque they produce. On gas engines, usually the engine hp and torque are real close to each other, on diesels the torque is tremendous and the hp is way below, totally the opposite of gasses. So that's why I said that.

Rooster you will find alot of gas that are getting less than 10 more like 7or 8,I don't know what to tell you about torq and hp,but my diesel is snappy.Just let me get my hands on that 21 mill, anyone that says money doesn't buy happiness isn't shopping in the right places.

rooster,
Show me a 3/4 or 1 ton truck with a gas motor that makes 20mpg, better yet 18mpg. It won't happen. Also the diesel make better mileage towing vs. the gas motor, and it tows better too.
Rooster go down to your local Ford, or dodge dealer and drive one, you'll be supprised. If you drive a dodge get a stick, the auto is under rated b/c it won't handle the torque.
Also on the hp remark, these diesels make peak torque at 1600rpms, and the peak hp is at 3200rpms or so. If the motor was allowed to run 5000+ rpms(which it won't) just imagine what the hp would be.
hope this helps

I was just thinking the dealer that handles the camper I have goes to CALIF to pick them up.He has older Ford Diesl claims he does 80mph to 90mph,still gets 22mpg.I figured it was good thing he was traveling fast other wise he'd have to stop all the time and siphon fuel out with the mileage he gets.LOL

chicken,
Your newer truck is better suited for a chip than the 95 is. Only beacuse the newer one has a wastegated turbo and a intercooler. On the 95 you'd have to watch the Pyrometer(EGT gauge) with the chip, because you don't have an intercooler. You can add one to it, but it cost about $1000 for it alone. Also The chip can remove the 95mph governer, but since you drive 65 that won't matter to you.
hope this helps, and looking forward to seeing you on ford diesel.com, you'll have to post what your "handle" will be.

Chevy's 6 liter V-8 Vortech engine used for their 2500's and up, produce 12-16 mpg. I can't find the others because they don't list them if the GVWR is over 4 ton. But that is a comparison. Our 1500 (I know it's not a heavier 2500 or larger) gets 18 on highway and when pulling still over 10, about 12 average. That's when we pull our 4 place snowmobile trailer with our 4 ATV's on and the back loaded with crap we need. I'm not gonna say the gasses are better for fuel economy, but they don't look very far off.

Jeremy the 95 is going I have it being detailed now and will put in the paper. It's a good truck and has only 80,000 on it I think it will go fast(I HOPE)98% of the miles are hwy.I have been back in Ford site thats real interesting thanks for putting me in there.
