best engine mods for 500 scramblers
#3
xcr660,
Really there isn't much you can do to get horsepower out of the 4 stroke slugs that Polaris makes. You can try a cam, 42mm TMX carb, higher compression piston, airflow mods on the air box (you'll need to get rid if the stock CV carb to do that), big bore kit and pipe.
Even with a motor maxed out like that, you still won't touch a two stroke 400 with the same dollar amount of mods to it. Heck if you have $2800 to do all of that, you could buy a 400 two stroke motor from HPD for that price. It should just bolt right on. All you need is the pipe and carb.
Sorry I couldn't be much more help.

Take out the reliable stock 500 and put a 400 two stroke in with all the mods on it that'll make it fly and when it blows up! put yer 500 back in.
And thats about that.Your better of to mod the clutching for power changes at least on the 500's anyway.
