2008 Polaris Sportsman 500 HO EFI .... How to remove CV from axle... PLEASE Help.
Every How To, YouTube video, and the service manual show a recessed area with a snap ring to remove the CV joint from the axle to replace the boots. Mine does not have one,
on either end. How in the heck does this thing come off? B&W picture from service manual ... Color is mine. Thank you..
I can not be certain as i have not seen this type before but it looks like on the inside there is going to be a snap ring that will compress.
Not knowing for sure i would hold the axle shaft up with a vise. Put downward pressure on one side of the CV joint inner cage and with a mallet hit the other side. See if that pops it apart.
That was pretty much what I figured it had to be, but was hesitant because everything was showing something different, and I couldn't find any mention of another style anywhere. I didn't want to just start beating on it without at least a second opinion.. lol.. I held the axle in a vice and hit the inner race with a brass punch. It took a couple of good whacks, but came off. It had a split ring, the same style as on the end of the axle where it goes into the trans and locks it in place.
Thank you..
Well, I certainly hope it helps someone else. It was a definite headache for me, trying to figure out why mine didn't look like the rest.. Thanks again for responding.
