Default 95 Polaris Xplorer 400 4x4 won’t run in neutral or 2wd

My 95 Xplorer 400 was working fine yesterday, sat overnight in the rain, and now won’t start in neutral or high/low 2wd. It starts fine in reverse or high/low with 4wd enabled, but not neutral or without 4wd. Also, if started in reverse and push the override button without 4wd on it kills it. A friend said to check the gear selection sensor, but I don’t know where to find it on this quad. The reverse light comes on when it’s in reverse and goes off when it’s not. The neutral light is fried so I’m not sure if it’s detecting neutral or not. Also not sure if this quad has a neutral safety because it’s always started even in gear since I’ve had it (3rd owner)

Turned out to just be a wire that the insulation had worn on and was grounding out on the frame.

Default Update

Checked resistance on the gear selector switch and it seems to be good. I’m leaning towards the CDI now. If I unplug the black wire for the cdi, the quad starts up fine, but won’t actually shut off with the ignition switch unless I reconnect the black cdi wire.
