First mods to Scrambler 400?
#1
Hey,
I just bought a 2000 Scrambler 400 2x4 for my wife. I ride a Raptor myself, so I know how I like it, and I knew what to mod. This is my first polaris. My wife wanted a sports quads, but she didn't want a manual clutch, so the scrambler was perfect for her. Obviously, I want to get it piped and jetted. What else though? What are the typical mods that you Scrambler owners do to yours? We're moving to Las Vegas shortly, so that's the terrain we're going to be riding (sand, desert, mountain).
Thanks,
Steven

I'm not an expert, but probably a clutch kit. Gotta get the power to the ground efficiently. Check sites like www.rittercycle.com and www.hpd-inc.com for some ideas. You can decide which mods fit your needs, or wants. Hope this helps a little.

Your on the right track. Pipe it for sure, but don't forget to add a clutch kit to the beast. The clutches on Polaris machines are set up to engage at specific rpm ranges. As I am sure you know, when you add a pipe, you move the peak power on the powerband. To make the most of it, add a clutch kit that will engage at a slightly higher RPM. For the best results, buy the clutch kit and pipe from the same company. This way they can match the two.
I highly suggest RCR and HPD. (www.rittercycle.com & www.hpd-inc.com)
Also, if you give Rick at RCR a call, he will happily help you with any questions. Just tell him your new to the Polaris world and he will walk you through everything you want to know. Best customer service I have ever seen.

Definately begin with a pipe and clutch kit. It will definately wake it up. From there your pocket book is the limit. Both RCR and HPD have a plethera of goodies available from billet heads, 440cc kit's, 39PWK carbs to various other billet bolt on accessories.
There really isn't much available on the suspension side that is cost worthy enough in my opinion.
Take a look at the link in my sig to get an idea of what can be done, and enjoy it!!

Call Rick @ RCR and have him put a Stage 1 Kit together for you with a HPD Trail pipe. It should be less than $ 350.00 delivered. The Stage 1 Kit has the airbox mod w/ UNI filter, pipe & silencer and a primary clutch spring.
From there, a set of comfortable handlebars and grips so that she can hold on. Further down the road, Delta II Reeds and a reed cage spacer will add a little more snap to it...

Get in touch with C&R Offroad in Bastrop, LA (sorry, don't know the number), one of the guys there has an Xplorer 400 (same engine, right?) making around 65 HP, it's setup for mud, but if you did all those motor mods on the Scrambler, it would probably give your Raptor a good run...
