I've got a 99 sportsman and when I let off the throttle after going somewhat fast it makes a clicking noise then it turns into a wineing noise. It sounds like it is coming out of the belt cover. It's not all that loud it's just there. It has done it since I bought it. I've never owned a Polaris before so I don't know if that is normal. Can anyone help me with this?

Polaris,
I'm not sure about the clicking... you'll have to be more specific... But, the whining sound is normal. Thats the belt/EBS whine..
Can you feel that "click" if you lay your hand on the PVT cover?.. If so, I'd say your belt is hitting the cover. (NOT GOOD!) I'm not that familiar with EBS... I'm just getting to know it and decide if i'm gonna keep it on my Magnum 500 or trash it for the freewheel effect.
It might be normal for the EBS system.
Good Luck!!

The clicking sound could also be coming from the tranny cover. On our Sportsman, if it's idling the clutch will touch the cover and make a clicking sound, so I wonder if that's what it is on yours also.

Polaris Rules,
It's not a tranny problem (most likely) if the clicking sound occurs when quickly deaccelerating going down a hill. My brand new Sp335 clicks when down hill free wheeling. It is the front hub, dont ask me how,or what makes the sound, but it is the front hub/hubs. I have had several witnesses to these strange noises and it is the front hub/hubs. If you keep that bad boy greased up I wouldn't worry about it.

Polaris Rules,
I have the solution for the thumping and then whining noise; first, when you're down-hilling, use the brake as needed, but while you do that, make the engine rev just above a good idle. This is the problem solver-guranteed.
