Best Performance mod ever, and it's free!

I think I have discovered the very best performance gain I have ever had with my Scrambler. Forget pipes, clutch, airbox, carbs, reeds, spacers, porting, heads etc and this one is free!
I had my carb out to install a new HPD 39PWK carb to try to wake the old Scrambler 400 up a bit, and in the process, found the the throttle cable had streached to a point where, when your thumb was hard on, the slide was only 90% up in the carb! After a quick adjustment on the cable at the thumb throttle, presto, the slide moves to the top.
Holy cow man, a 10% power increase for free.
Go to your bikes, everybody, and check the slack in the cable at the throttle end. Adjust it correctly, and feel the difference. I know, I did!

The adjustment is just forward of the throttle box. It has a rubber cover. If it is adjusted properly you can turn the handlebars full right and left and have no reduction in rpms. On my HO, after about 6 hours, it began to die out or loose rpms when I turned full right at idle/slow speeds. It took about 2 mins to fix 'er right up.

THIS IS A VERY GOOD POINT YOU BROUGHT UP. ALL CABLES STRECH, ALL OF US THAT HAVE CLUTCH MACHINES KNOW THIS BUT SINCE POLARIS HAS NO CLUTCH THERE ARE PROBALY ALOT OF GUYS WHO NEVER THINK TO CHECK FOR THIS. I ALWAYS REMOVE MY CARB AND LOOK THROUGH IT TO MAKE SURE IT FULLY OPENS AND CLOSES. YOU DO WANT JUST A TOUCH OF PLAY AS NOT RISK THE THROTTLE STICKING.
