mag 425
#2
My uncle has a 95 mag 425 and it seems like a good ATV we have used it to pull out some huge trees and to plow the snow. and with the way he takes care of it, had it for 3yrs and never changed the oil or greased it. the only problem was caused by a moron shifting into reverse while driveing forward down a hill

The early 95 machines had a lot of inadequacies. They fixed the major ones by late 95 & 96. I think by the time the 97 machines came out, they had the bugs worked out of them. Just treat them as you would any other 3 chain Polaris & you should be fine (grease it like you should & keep an eye on the chains).

I have a 98 425 Magnum. Some of the things to look for are the obvious. Check ALL three chains as well as the sprockets. They have not caused me much trouble, but require more maintenance than the shaft drive models. Check the front tire rod ends. They are probably shot if they have not been replaced. I have not had any major troubles with this machine. The one front hub seal is starting to leak a little, but not bad. I will replace it when I get some time. Check the radiator and see if it looks clean or is caked with mud. Ride the machine and see if it pulls to one side or another. Check the brakes to see if they are worn out. Also, take a small jack and jack up the rear tires. Leave the AWD switch off and start it up and put it in gear. The front tires should not move. Stop it, put the AWD on, and put it back in gear. As the rear tires start to spin, the fronts should grab and pull you off the jack (be careful). This well tell you if the 4wd is working. Post again if you have any questions.
