i am going to get a 60 hp kit for my 400 explorer and i was wanting to know what would be better to do/port the stock head or buy the billet head?which would make more power?should i get the 38mm carb or get my stock one bored to a 35.5 for 60 dollars?should i bother with shaving my flywheel?also who offers the best complete clutch kit?all my mods are for pump gas and trail riding.thanks ////after all the mods for the 60 horse kit should i be able to outrun a stock 400 scrambler?

1. I'm not sure about the heads
2. I would get the bigger carb
3. Shaving the flywheel will give you much better throtle response
4. I think that hpd has the best kit
5. well i used to have a 98 explorer but i never tried it against a scrambler, but my gut feeling is that he will eat your dust all the way

Yes, I have done these mods. I did them one by one to keep a handle on the jetting.
I went with the billet head only to keep the option of going back to stock compression open, But once you've had the power there is no turning back. You will be on pump gas....But it will be premium pump!
Good luck,
P.S. Rick Ritter is very easy to talk to on the phone, Don't try to e-mail though!!
