Scrambler 4X4?
#1
I have a '98 300EX. I love to ride in the mud but the EX just doesn't cut it. I would like to buy a 4 by scrambler but I am kinda weary about buying a polaris. So I would like to hear from some scrambler owners about their machine(how it handles, reliability, etc.) I want something with power in the mud but I have a need for speed. Is a scrambler right for me? Thanks for any suggestions!

I own a 1998 Scrambler 500 4x4. It handles great, and is one fast 4x4. The auto is awsome, and so is the 4wd capabilities. I really never had major problems, exceptfor a bad seal in the caliper. Other than that, no problems. Yes I do consider it reliable. Test ride one and I'm sure you'll love it.

I've had my 500 4x4 for a little over a year. The only problem I've had was my brake light was stuck on. I can keep up with the true sport quads. I may not beat a 400ex, but I can hang in there! It's not great for jumping, but if you want a fun all around quad, go for it!!

I have a 97 500 Scram and have had NO problems at all. I do alot of maintenance and preventive care. The 4x4 capabilities are awesome. If you ride trails that arent wide open throttle areas you will have no problem keeping up with anyone. If you ride areas that are WFO you will fall behind the true sports. Air time on the Scram is very limited but you can catch some air. The Scram is a great all around ATV.

I've got a 96 Scrambler 400 4x4 and I love it. It will go anywhere and quick too. Haven't had any major problems--Just brakes and tires. I had to replace the lower steering bushing about 500 miles ago but that's it. Buy one...It's just what you're looking for.

i had a 97 400 scrambler and now have a 500 4x4 scrambler. i have never had any serious problem with either. if you are looking for a light atv, this is not it (570 lbs) but if you want one that can ride with sport atvs as well as handle the mud, this is it. the scramblers are as close as it comes to the best of all worlds.

The scrambler is a good bike but it will feel like a pig after riding your ex. But if you get the 400 scrambler you will be able to modify it so much, that it will blow anything away. And with all that power it wont feel so much like a pig.

In my opinion Polaris "sport" quads are VERY underated by everyone that does't own one. I was looking for a Banshee or 250r when I bought mine, and I ONLY got it cause it was cheap. It is a '98 Sport 400 2x4, and I had never heard a good thing about them from anybody except my friend who owned it. I didn't like the idea of it being automatic...after all auto's are for sissy's right??? WRONG!!! It is as fast, if not faster, than my friends Banshee in a 300-400' drag race. Try posting that on a Yamaha board and see what the results are. However, there is no doubt that it completely embarrass a 300ex as well as quads like a Warrior or Blaster. Mine has been pretty reliable as well. Except for a few small parts, it has held together through all of the abuse I put it through. Like I said, mine is a 2x4, so I can't speak for the 4x4's (I would trade mine for a 4x4 any day). A guy by the name of Xplor on here has a completely hopped up Scrambler 4x4 that can smoke his friends MODIFIED Banshee in a drag race and top end. Recently he had some engine trouble, but I never heard him say anything about the 4x4 causing any problems. You came to the right place to ask about the Scrambler. If you were to post this question on a Yamaha board or Honda board all you would here is JUNK...JUNK...JUNK. I can't blame them, I thought the same thing before I actually owned one. Now you could offer me a Banshee, or a 400ex in trade and I would say NO. I would probably trade for a Raptor, or DS650, but that is about it. The automatic is very addicting, and so isn't reverse. Good luck with whatever you choose. Later.

I raced my friends slightly modified(shaved head,K&N)twice on hard packed road & both times were were exactly side by side up to his 6th gear shift then he pulled away. I raced my other friend DS twice & it wasn't even close both times, he was way far behind so there must have been something wrong w/ his DS cause I know it should be quicker than that. After I spen $500 on suspension it rides as nicely as it is fast. Yes it's very reliable. Plus you can ride all year & in Pa, that a big deal w/ all the snow we get. I dont even want to mention hill climbing abilities, mud etc. No comparision between 2wd & 4wd.
