HELP!!! Clutch making clicking noise!!
#1
Ever time I go down a hill when the clutch tries to hold back it makes a hell of a clicking sound. I thought it waz the helix but I put in a FTR clutch kit and it still does it. IF I stay on the gas, or the bike freewheels it doesn't do it. I took it to the polaris shop to have them put it in and he said my clutch bottons were pretty wore and that I should chage em. We just changed them not to long ago. Could this be whats making the clicking noise. I will probebly replace them with HPD's.
Sorry for long post but please help!!!
Thanks Ryan H.

I mean the front buttons. They usually will outlast the rear by quite a bit. I think one reason they get loose is a lot of people aren't even aware they are in there. If you look carefully between the towers and spider of the front clutch, you will find 6 buttons, maybe about the size of a dime or so (but hopefully thicker). These can work loose eventually and if they do, it can cause the front clutch to click or rattle during idle and de-acceleration. It usually doesn't rattle under load (unless it is REAL bad) because the power of the engine will put enough load on it to take up any slack.
I'm not saying not to look at the rear, just to check the front while you have the belt cover off. They are only a couple bucks apiece, but are hard to get to (need a clutch buster or 'grunt' tool). I hear that HPD has come out with heavy-duty buttons that are SUPPOSED to be indestructable, but cost about 4 times as much as the Polaris ones.
