I'll back up SportKod. I herd exactly the same thing this week from a local dealer here in Minneapolis. Supposed to go like a raped ape. Polaris' engineering and developement located not too far away from here in Roseau, MN. The dealer evidently knows someone who's involved with the project.

Hummm... was thinking about buying the 400 scrambler but if this machine is to show up this Spring, I might have to wait and see what SantaPolaris might have in his goodie bag....

p.s: Supposed to be based off Polaris's 500cc twin L/C snowmobile engine, higher RPM's 20% HP gain vs. 400 single.

If it's true what type of chassis will it be in? I don't care if they use a 600 twin, if they don't update their chassis it will be a waste. The current set-up's can barely handle a hopped-up 400, much less a 500 twin!

I heard about a 500 twin also. Apparently this is one of their newer snowmobile motors that they are ranting and raving about. There is not too much info out yet but i assume that it will be fitted into a sport ( excuse me a scrambler 2x4 ) to keep the price realistic. With the DS 650 priced at $7000 maybe we will see a 500 twin scambler too.

I'm not too sure but i think they are replacing some trans components that can handle only up to 70 HP reliably with stronger snowmobile trans components that can handle in excess of 110 HP.

If Polaris puts a 500 twin in a quad, it will not be the same 500 they use in their sled. That machine is making in the neighborhood of 100hp, which is way more than they would be willing to put in a quad. I would expect 50-55hp max, besides you couldn't get a motor like the 500 twin, to run cool enough in hot weather in a state of tune that makes 100hp.

No, but you could tone it down to 60-70, while chilling it with liquid. Egads!

The engine could put out 500 HP...

They WILL find a way to cool it. If it needs to be cooled.

Examples...

High flow water pump
Dual, triple, or even 4 core radiator
High flow head
air cooling fins too

There is a way to cool it if it needs to be cooled.

AMA 99 Sportsman Any Questions...ASK

P.S. I am not saying he engine puts out 100,110, or 500 HP

So what kind of engine are we talking about, something from their 500 XC snowmobile? Probably a liquid cooled one. I remember a long time ago Polaris sent us a survey for our Sportsman 500. At the end of the survey, they asked for additional comments that they could use to make their machines better or what they could use yet. I remember we put a lot of things on it, Polaris said to use a separate sheet of paper if necessary. No, we did not say anything about the grease zerks, I don't know why they're disappearing from their machines. But, we told them they really need a machine to compete with a Yamaha Banshee (at the time there was no 400EX). We said they have access to a whole bunch of snowmobile engines, so they have that department covered. What are they doing, it's in the works and on its way. At the time of the survey, there were no small four stroke models from Polaris. We put on the survey that they should make some smaller four stroke quads, and also make more machines with shaft drive. The next year, the Scramblers had concentric drive in the back, shaft to the front, as did the Xplorer 400. The Magnum was not a 500 at the time, and later it became bigger and got shaft drive. Now we have a whole bunch of smaller 4 stroke quads from Polaris. Coincidence, could be, but they listen to their customers I think. We also requested a kids quad, nothing heard about that but I wouldn't be surprised to see one soon.

Rooster; Poke em again, if you could influence them that much then just think what you could get them to do now. No seriosly, I remember filling out those same forms and giving those same answers. I agree that its no coincidence that they are making those diffrent machines now. They do those surveys for a reason , to find out what the consumer wants and obviously they are listening.
