2001 0r 2000 Scrambler
#1
I am looking at two new scramblers. Both still in their crates. One is a 2000 and the other a 2001 model . I can get a real good deal on the 2000 model. What if any are the differences between the two years. If there is a difference, how much of an improvement is there on the 2001 model. Can anyone help me to make an informed choice please.

Yes the brake system is new. New look for the master cylinder, steel braided lines, and on some models the rotors and pads are made of a different material. Also the '01 has an updated steering post with the bearing at the bottom. Both of these improvements I believe are worth it. The braking is night and day on all models. The steering not too sure on the Scramblers but it is definately noticeable on my HO.

2001 has an upgraded braking system which includes and easier operating brake lever, heat treated pads and disks(longer life), and stainless steel braded brake lines. It also has an upgraded steering geometry, with a better bearing at the bottom of the steering post, improved tie-rods and what-not. Thats pretty much it. Oh, and the "life-time belt warentee".

From 2000 to 2001 more things changed then the steering post and brakes. They put larger exhaust valves and did some carb mods which gave it about 15% more horsepower. They also redesigned the PVT ventilation system to keep the PVT cooler and keep water out. They also redesigned the PVT snorkel to help keep the water from spraying directly into it. There were some other odds and ends changed but I can't remember exactly what they are but they are minor.
It depends on the price difference. If we are talking around $1000 I would say get the 2000 otherwise get the 2001.
