If anyone has an opinion on the Xpedition, I would like to hear it. Also any facts such as top speed acceleration, mudding and anything else. Novice or Professional doesn't matter, just want to hear your 2 cents. Post somthing about reliablity too

What Xpedition are you talking about? The 425 or the 325? I do not know anything about either one though. Feeling like Boner, I was reading in Wal-Mart in one of the four wheeler magazines (Either Dirt Wheels or 4-Wheel ATV action)about the 325 Xpedition. They explained that the 325 was underpowered compared to the Honda 350 Rancher. They also said that they would pay the extra $1000.00 for the 425 Xpedition any day. Like I said, I have not had any experience with either one of them. I'm just stating the facts. Though I have heard pretty good things about the 425. This is probably not of any help if you are going with the 425 any way. Just wanted to let you know what I found out about the 325. Which machine are you looking at anyway? 425 or 325?

I'm looking at the 425, the 325 doesn't seem to have enough power since both atvs are about the same weight. I can purchase a 425 for about 5500 dollars at my local dealer, and can get a rancher for about 5000, but I'm kind of delaying till i get more info from riders that are both experienced and novice. Thanks for your reply.

take care.....

I bought a 425 in July and have been pretty pleased with it. I think you would like it better than the 325. Acceleration is good but the "granny low" first gear usually prevents you from winning any drag races. I expect this would hold true for any 5 speed utility though. Top speed for me so far has been about 45-50 mph according to the speedo.

The Xped does good in the mud but if you stick it, its gonna take some work to get it out. Ive had mine stuck twice now but, it was in the kind of mud that looks damp on top but when youi step off in it, you sink to your knees. Polaris are heavy so getting stuck in that kind of mud is NOT the place to be. Of course this is with stock tires.

If you like hillclimbing, the Xped is a good choice. It has tons of torque due to the low geared 5speed. Im not brave enough to tackle a lot of steep climbs but friends of mine have taken my Xped up some steep hills and it just walks right up. In 2nd gear the torque is plenty and it keeps wheel spin to a minimun, at least this is my reasoning why it climbs so well.

I hope my input has helped and by the way, I am a novice rider with less than a year of riding experience.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

I bought the 425 Expedition after having had 2 Honda Foremans; a 400 and and 450ES. I love the more comfortable suspension on the Expedition, and the weight "feels" lighter than the Foreman 450ES. I haven't gotten stuck in the mud with it yet, but I've avoided mud as much as possible. It really does well in the mountains. I just haven't gotten enough miles on it yet to say whether it does better in the rough rocks, which I suspect it will not handle as well due to the longer travel suspension (more tippy). So far, I'm a happy owner.

I've heard alot of good stuff about the 425. In fact one of the Polaris hating mags even said it shifted smoother than a Honda. It would be nice if they offered it with the 500cc motor though. I saw you asked this in the Honda forum too. The Honda is a fine quad too, though kinda boring (most Hondas are). The thing with the X-425 is you get a 5 speed with all the Polaris goodies. Good looks, Suspension, better ride, easy reverse procedure, 4X4 (not 3WD), ease of use even with the 5 speed. switchable 2WD to 4WD etc.
The 425 seems like a winner.

umm the xpedition may be a nice quad, but it certainly is not a Honda, if you want something with gears then why are you even looking at a xpedition? it is proven that the honda is a smoother and better geared machine, xpedition's low gears are too close and there high gears are to high. sorry to burst your bubble.

Thank you for all of your input. I think I'm going to go with the rancher though just because of what I read even though I like the 425 Xped. Since it seems like the hondas have a better resale...If I don't like it I'll trade it in. My Polaris dealer told me the Xped aren't selling very good anyway.

Thanks again all

Andrew, what's this about Honda's being boring? I would think the Polaris quads would be more boring because you don't have to shift. That's the reason why I got rid of my '96 Trailblazer. Although the automatics are more beginner friendly, they are definitely not more exciting. I got my Honda 300EX because I wanted more of an exciting machine, more power, better suspension, and most importantly, I was getting sick of the Polaris letting me down. I noticed you never said anything about the reliability. As for the reverse procedure, if you're on any Rancher, you do not have to take your hands off the bars, and you don't with the Polaris either. So they both have an easy reverse procedure.

Good choice Dutch, although I don't think you'll have to take advantage of that good resale value, since I think you'll love the Rancher and will want to keep it.
