400 two stroke
#1
I'm picking up my slightly used (38 hours) xplorer 400 tommorow. Just wondering if anybody has had any problems I should look for before I lay down the dough.
I'm also wondering what differences there are between the scamb 400 and the xplorer's. My boss has a scrambler, and I bet I could talk him into getting a new pipe and selling me his stocker for cheap. would this work?
Thanks,

I have a 2001 400 xplorer. I love it, lots of low end power.great in snow, mud, sand, everywhere. I would get a swing arm skid plate.I do a lot of rock climbing,it will keep tour chain and brake rotor from getting messed up

Rather than buy the stock pipe you oughta go on ebay and check some out. They have a hot seat pipe for the buy it now price of $130 right now. It may go for less than that. I just type in Polaris 400.
I don't know about the fitment problem though.

The fitment problem is the scrambler and explorer chassis are different.

I have a Scrambler 400 and my brother has the Explorer 400. Both machines have been ridden very, very, hard and neither has ever had an engine problem.
The explorer gets used more like an amphibious landing craft than a ATV. My brother has sunk it in many swamps and bogs, always got him home.
The only Mech. problems he ever had
(1) The ocasional explodeing headlight (when they go under water and he forgot to turn them off)
(2) and a throttle cable got messed up. He noticed that the cable going to the oil injection was slopy and not tracking well. He got a new one and has not had a problem since.
If you leave the motor stock it will be as reliable as any motor out there.
They also seam to be very good motors with mild hop ups, strong and reliable.
But if you go all out and pump it up to 65 plus HP, expect a problem now and then. Any small motor makin that kind of power is on the ragid edge of $$$$OUCH$$$$.

Thanks Scramblerx, I have honestly never heard that word before. I wasn't trying to be a dic or anything just never heard it before, and could not find it in our dictionary. Still can't.
