I'm trying to remove the drive clutch from my '00 Scram 400 4x4. The driven clutch slipped right off, but the drive clutch is being a real.......well, you know what. I know there is a special tool designed to thread into the drive clutch, but does anyone have any ideas to share that would help me get this off without one. I practically beat the crap out of thing today, but it wouldn't budge.

The front clutch will not come off without the right puller. They cost about $25.00 and your local dealer probably has them for sale and if not they can remove it for you . Using 2 or 3 jaw pullers will break or bend the belt shieves , I have seen that done before .
Beating on things can really cause major damage . The clutch costs a little shy of $300 and beating on it can destroy it or misalign the crankshaft if you really get wild on it.
Why are you removing it?

I'm trying to get everything off so I can get at the transmission. I was riding the other day and all of a sudden the machine went into neutral all by itself. When I tried to put it back in drive, it immediately went back into neutral. I ended up having to ride it home in reverse! I checked the linkage and it is fine, I removed the linkage from the tranny and tried manually placing it into high. I got the same results. It feels as though something major gave in the transmission and I just wanted to check it out. Anyway, thanks for the advice on the drive clutch, I'll check with my local dealer today.
