This 400 better be a 2 stroke and whats witht the manual trans, there is'nt a human alive that can shift fast than an automatic. With the right clutch kit you can get the automatic to engage on a dime.

The new sport quad will NOT be a two-stroke. It would most likly be the same engin size as the sportmans, 680cc twin four-stroke.
The manual trany is for the people who want a "true" sport quad, thoes people want to shift.

I really wish someone from Roseau or Spirt Lake would take there digital camera and get some pics. I know if i lived there i would go looking for these machines.

Spoke to a Dealer in Hurley WI., this past Memorial day.
Said the new weight limit in Wi is now 699#. It passed in mid May.
Also said the Sp700 will be out this fall. However, it has a manual transmission. Apparently the automatic tranny could not handle the power put out by the 700. The new engine is still a single cylinder.

The 700 twin sounds great but is this going to be the first Polaris machine with a manual tranny?
If so I don't know how confident I would be that it would be trouble free.

Ummmm...this may be a stupid question, but if the auto clutch system will work in a big cc snowmachine, then why wouldn't it work on a 700cc 4-stroke quad? I mean some of these sleds are pushing 150+ hp stock. The quad would probably be under 50 right? I don't know much about this stuff, but I can't understand that. I've heard a lot of arguments that can't compare quads to sleds because a sled has an easier time in the snow, than a quad in the mud. What about for the guys who grass drag though? There isn't much spinning going on there.

Also, I think that if the Sp700 was a manual tranny they would lose a lot of sales because auto is such a popular feature right now. I can see if the new "sport quad" had a manual clutch, but not the Sportsman.

Maybe I'm all wrong, and it wouldn't suprise me because I don't know a whole lot about this stuff, but it's just my opinion.

I can't see the tranny being a manual. Auto is so popular right now. And I am sure the R&D dept at Polaris realises this. Also, the engine could in no way be too strong for an auto. There are modded snomobiles running 200 hp and still using the same basic belt tranny. And over in Europe, there are even small cars that use CVT transmissions.

But, is for some weird reason it is a manual, it will not be the first. Don't forget the Xpeditions.

Wisconsin 700 twin model means that it will be built with out racks and tires and some other items to make the 650 pound weight limit. Then you buy the accesseries. The price will be the same as a Minnesota model.
