I was wondering if anyone has ever had to replace one of those little white brake fluid containers on the handlebars ever, and if you have how much did it cost?

 

Mine was on a 99 SP 500, it cost right around
$70. It was pretty easy to replace, but It's
hard to get all the air out of it, I havn't found a way to bleed it. The SP has bleeders on the hubs and on the right side infront of the rear tire. This got most of the air out of mine, but the brakes aren't like they used to be.

 

$90 for that and $200 for the rear caliper!

I paid $65.00 and the parts guy told me not to even use the bleeding procedure.He told me to install it then squeeze the brake level several times in rapid succession (with the cover off) then hold the lever in fully and release it very slowly. You will notice small bubbles rising to the surface. Repeat this process (10-20 times) untill you no longer see any bubbles. I don't know if it will work for everyone but it worked on mine.

That's for the complete master cylinder assembly. Just the white container is like $16 I think.

I use the "normal" bleeding procedure first, then the rapid squeezing the lever. It works great, and you can see the bubbles coming up.

 

$90 for a $15 plastic brake fluid reservior? .... I replaced one for a friend and it was $15 plus tax... it has two screws that thread into it from underneath the master cylinder...
As for bleeding, I filled it with fluid, squeezed it several times slowly (until there were no more bubbles) then I double checked it by bleeding each of the brake cylinders.

 

Hey you guys thanks a lot. My uncles 97 Sportsman 400 got wrecked and it did a little damage. The container got busted all up. I just had to find out how much it would be and how easy to replace before he took it to the dealer and it cost him out the ***. If anyone else has anything don't hesitate to post it. He needs all the help he can get.

 

According to my dealer, on the 99's you have to replace the whole thing. I would have liked to just replace the plastic resevoir, but Polaris forced me to buy the whole brake lever and resevoir.

 

I think they took you-my dealer said that unless you have a problem with the rest of the assembly,there was no reason not to just replace the reservoir only. Was it Polaris that told you that or the dealer(cuz you say POLARIS took you-I'd think it was actually the dealer who did!

I watched him look up the part in some software. I don't know if it was Polaris Software or his own (dealers) . The only part number it listed was for the whole assembly.
Now that you brought that up, do you know if there is any replacement for the choke flipper dealy thingy? I also had to replace the whole cable going to the plunger in the carb, not just the plastic choke lever (as you would assume to be possible) This was also my Dealer that said I had to replace the whole thing (choke cable).
