Xplorer 400?

I have a 00 explorer 400 that I bought a couple of weeks ago. It kicks my 99 magnum 500s butt in acceleration and top speed. The 400 produces 38 hp.( thats more than yamaha's 600 Grizzly) I had the speedometer showing 60 and I ran out of road. To say i'm pleased with this machine would be a gross understatement, I love it!
I have owned 5 quads ( Yamaha Warrior, honda 300, Polaris Trailboss, Polaris magnum 500 and the explorer 400) and the 400 is my favorite with the mag a close second.

I have had it to 60 but i'm taking it down to the farm on Thursday and i'll turn it loose on a one lane black top road that is straight and level for several miles. I'll let you know how it does. As for wheelies it will do it. I rode a couple yesterday and got some funny looks.(it's not everyday you see a 580 lbs. utility quad riding on the back wheels)However it is kind of unnerving I felt pretty out of control. I am not sure how much wheeling I need to be doing. I would like to keep both the new quad and myself in one piece for a while.

about the 65 mph thing I seem to have started... the dealer I bought it from says that if I think it runs good and is fast now that after about 5 tanks of gas it really improves; he says it takes a little while for it to loosen up.IT`S by far the fastest polaris utility atv, maybe fastest utility period ,and I`m sure it`ll outrun many of the sport models.

I have accomanied riders with 400 Explorers on rides involving fire road blasting and they are something to behold. You certainly will not be at the back of the pack eating dust with the Timberwolves, and 450/400/300 Hondas! Then we pulled into the service station and the guys on the Explorer 400s were getting a little over 19 MPG, not bad at all for all that performance.
You know, with the front shaft drive and the concentric rear drive they have quite a few of the previous negatives about the machine worked out. I hope that the machine is not discontinued in 2002, with Polaris leaning toward 4-stroke everything.

Dominator, the explorer is a more utility oriented machine. It has the same 400cc liquid cooled two-stroke engine as the 400 scrambler but has high and low range, front and rear racks, taller utility type tires and wheels and plastic very similar to the Mag500/Sportsman. It lists for $5899 ($5599 I think for the scrambler 400?) It is four-wheel drive (concentric rear and shaft front) like the Scramblers.
